Kevin Neal Gardner was born and raised in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula. After completing high school in Seattle, Washington, Gardner earned his B.A. in Liberal Arts from St. John’s College, Annapolis, Maryland. St. John’s provided a unique, all-required, and interdisciplinary course of study-based on the great books of the Western tradition. Due to a developing interest in fine art, Gardner directed his post-graduate studies towards painting and moved to Philadelphia to study at the historic Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts.

Gardner interrupted his time at the Pennsylvania Academy and joined the staff at the Philadelphia Mural Arts Program, Philadelphia’s highly esteemed mural art and arts education program devoted towards a mission of community building, youth development, and blight remediation. After three years at Philadelphia Mural Arts and upon receipt of the Jonathan Lax Scholarship, Gardner left his position as the Direct of Finance and returned to the Pennsylvania Academy where he completed the four year Certificate in Painting program. To support his painting goals, Gardner remains involved with Philadelphia non-profit organizations such as Al-Bustan Seeds of Culture, Asian Arts Initiative, the Philadelphia Mural Arts Program, and Spiral Q Puppet Theater, providing services ranging from part time bookkeeping to public tours of Philadelphia’s many murals.

Gardner has shown work at St. John’s College, Philadelphia City Hall, the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts, the Philadelphia Sketch Club, the Moore Gallery, the William Way Center, and the Pennsylvania Art Conservatory. Gardner is currently an M.F.A. candidate at Indiana University, Bloomington. Contact: k.gardner.art.googlepages.com
