I appreciate a good door.

A good door can keep the wolf at bay, keep the cold touch of winter out of a house, and provide privacy in the bathroom. And late at night who isn’t glad to peek from the bed across the room and see that the closet door is tightly, firmly, completely shut? Sometimes life feels like a revolving door, as things come round and round to us. One door closes, another opens. Opportunity knocks at the door (and we try not to mistake it for the wolf beating on the door). Was I born in a barn? Maybe—I often forget to close the door, even though I’m old enough to remember The Doors. And for years I lived safely behind a Madonna blue door.

The doors on the cover of this issue are like the work within the issue, each telling its own tale. And what secrets they hold. Our authors are kind enough to open their doors.

Come on in. The Quay door is open.
